Guess I’m going to college in a few months... Digipen, probably the best place for an apiring game developer like me. Quite honestly, the journey has been long and hard but with the support of my friends and family I made it here. Though I have to say that Miss Jyothsna, over the last few years, has guided me and helped me with essays and whatnot. It was only through her guidance and support that I’ve made it this far and I know that she is the best CC I’ve ever known.

My journey with Ms. Jyothsna started after I had completed the 10th grade. She was no ordinary college counsellor to me; she was a friend. A friend who was available to take every call of mine and lead me in the right direction. A friend who would hear out all my confusions and come up with the most logical solutions. More than anything else, a friend who truly put in the time and effort to get to know me inside out. I came to her very confused about what I wanted to do in college and where I wanted to go. While I wanted to study Law in India, I also wanted to pursue Economics and International Relations abroad. I was confused about countries and subjects and what I wanted to do where. Ms. Jyothsna guided me such that I kept all options open. With her help I managed getting into universities across Canada from The University of Toronto on the east coast to the University of British Columbia on the west, all the way to universities in the UK such as Kent and Exeter. She helped me manage my time and keep my options open across the world, and when it came down to it, she knew me so well that we found it easy discussing what my final decision may be. She let me be myself while always offering her guidance. She was the one who would make sure all the information was laid out in front of me before I made any decisions. I thank her every day for helping me grow, for teaching me independence while always reaffirming to me that she had my back.

 
I came to Jyothsna ma’am wondering if I even had enough time to build an application to apply to universities. She encouraged me to open up to her and very soon we started our work and despite knowing we did not have a lot of time she never once pushed me to complete an essay or start a new one. She has patiently helped me through difficult times and consoled me when it got a bit too much to handle. I would not be in the place I am today and would have no way gotten accepted by the majority of universities I had applied to if it were not for her support and guidance. Jyothsna ma’am knows her way around words without being too harsh or soft. She knew when I was being overly ambitious and brought it down by calmly explaining to me the problems behind it. She quickly caught onto my likes and dislikes and formed a pattern and immediately sent me a list of universities she thought I would work best in and she was extremely accurate. I owe all my acceptance letters to her and the hours she spent working on my essays to ensure I submitted only the best of the best. I would like to thank her from the bottom of my heart for everything she has done for me.

 
Jyothsna is a counselor I'd happily send my students to, knowing they will be given personal attention and full assistance for the important and strategic route one needs to take to get to the college that fits the student best.

I worked as a college counselor with her at TISB, and have found that she's a treasure house of nuanced information regarding the college application process. She always priorities her students, and works hard to put those under stress at ease. I have seen her counseling students struggling to get their essays started, and on the other hand, give in-depth feedback on the nth draft. She will think of getting to the solution of a problem, far before the problem is identified by others. Hi everyone! I’m Dhruvi Parekh and I’ve been Ms. Joe’s kid for the entirety of my high school. I plan on going to University of Toronto. I’m going to flex a little here, because I applied to 10 universities (5 in the UK and 5 in Canada) and I got into 9 of them, with the 10th one being a waitlist at the moment. The reason I say this is because I 100% owe this to Ms. Joe. I’m a staunch perfectionist and I started worrying about college since way back when. Ms. Joe has been there for me through EVERYTHING. Paranoid fits, crying sessions and bouts of extremely low to none existent confidence for me. I think people forget that besides having a counsellor who has great knowledge of how the college application system works, it’s also important that you have a counsellor who is genuinely invested in you and is looking to be there for you in every way possible. Not only have I received tremendous support and advice on the college front, with essay tips and constant feedback, I have also received a lot of emotional and psychological support from Ms. Joe, and I think that’s what makes her the best possible counsellor out there. She knows just where you’ll be happy, will give you very straightforward advice and will always, always leave it up to you to decide. I always appreciated the freedom. As someone who was extremely keen on the UK up till the 10th grade, where a college visit changed my mind and got me to apply to Canada as my first choice, I have to admit she was the most accommodating person and talked me through exactly what I wanted.

The most important part, as I said, is the overall guidance she provides. Don’t get me wrong, the resources, tips and feedback received is absolutely brilliant, but the highlight for me was the amount of support she provides, where she genuinely wants the best for you. I’m not going to shy away from admitting that I couldn’t have done half the things I did without Ms. Joe.

Although I finally decided not to go with a college counselor, as I only had a few more weeks before early deadlines when we began considering the prospects of counseling, Ms Jyothsna was always there to help me, even at the last moment. She was offering feedback, and great help despite me not even being one of her students, so I can't even begin to imagine how much she cares, and is invested in her other kids. She has a lot of experience with top schools, and definitely knows her stuff. Her philosophy is great too, and we were drawn to her because she was very genuine, and would try to bring out the best in her students. She gave me invaluable feedback on my supplement essays that cannot be found online or anywhere else. Id truly recommend atleast having a conversation with her to see for yourself how great she is, and how much she loves what she does and cares about everyone. For 9th graders looking to start out early and even 12th graders like me, were a little late to the game, I think working with her is a solid investment, that will Genuinely help you bring out the best in yourself!

 
She truly, in the essence of college counselling, personalises guidance for you. She is very well informed about college information, statistics, and gives great insight into how admissions work. I take this opportunity to personally thank Ms. Jyothsna who has been a great mentor, coach and and inspiration for me. I had decided to pursue a career in medicine in the UK. She worked on my strengths and my profile and gave personal attention to my needs. She coached and advised me on how I should go about researching and shortlisting institutes, and assisted me in preparing my personal statement and essays to be submitted along with my applications. I had to relocate to India from Shanghai due to personal reasons and she helped me settle down in pursuing my academic studies at school and also keep my focus on preparing for my application.

I have received acceptances from UK and Ireland for studying medicine while also receiving offers from Canada from some of the top universities to study medical sciences. I owe all my success in receiving acceptance from the best universities to which I had applied to her. Ms Jyothsna, has been on my side professionally and personally.

She was very empathetic and patient throughout the college application process this was important for me as I was a new student in my school in 2nd year of IBDP. These qualities of Ms Jyothsna made my college application process much simpler and relieved me off the stress of pursuing my studies and also my application process. Another quality of Ms Jyothsna that distinguishes her from others is that she always treats and counsel’s her students like she is counseling her own children, Thank you, ma’am, for always being there for me and guiding me in the best possible way.

Hats off to Ms. Jyothsna for all the effort she’s put into helping each of her kids to the best of their potentials. She has never wavered in her confidence in me and what I can do and helped me through my most stressful times in the last two years and I can’t thank her enough for that. High school’s scary as is and with the college application processes always looming at the edge of your vision throughout the two years, you need someone to guide you through all of it - and I think Ms. Jyothsna was better than I could have ever expected :’) She knows what she’s doing and she’s ready to put the extra effort it takes as a counsellor to help you to what you want. I have never met someone so dedicated. As soon as you send in an essay, she’s ready with feedback. You stick to the deadlines and you’re pretty much set. I cruised through it all with her :) You can call in on her at anytime for any kind of doubt you have and she’ll guide you through it in a simple, methodical way. She made things simple :) I was looking to gain merit scholarships wherever I could and she helped me from the start when I talked to her about it - she helped me choose the right colleges, and worked with me through the tons of extra essays - and finally, I have her to thank for the scholarships I got at UBC, Boston University and Emerson College. Ms. Jyothsna - the most dedicated, hardworking and passionate counsellor you will have the privilege of working with.

I began working with her at the beginning of my junior year (11th grade), which meant that she guided me through every step of the seemingly insurmountable journey of applying to colleges in the US. From applying to pre-college summer programs and internships, planning standardised testing schedules, working on and building strong extracurriculars, creating and refining a personalised college list, crafting effective application essays, preparing for interviews, and just going through the emotionally taxing process of applying to college, Ms. Jyothsna had a keen and holistic understanding of how best to help and advise me through every step.

Beyond being incredibly dedicated to helping me with the application process, she took a special effort to get to know every student she worked with. This allowed her to effectively oscillate between the different roles she would have to take on as the process unfurled - from a critic to a supporter to a comforting friend. I never felt like another name in the file, and felt like my passions, interests and aspirations were being truly understood. In this process, she was able to best bring out my potential, as well as best showcase my strengths. Overall, she approaches the entire process with unmatched compassion, and beyond everything else, I most cherish the unconditional love and support that I felt throughout.

Of course, my correspondence with Ms. Jyothsna has continued. Over the past year, as I’ve gone through the rollercoaster that has been my first year at Stanford, she has continued to be such an important presence in my life, an essential academic mentor, confidante and friend.

I had her as my counsellor and she helped me throughout my high school years. She was especially a great help for me as I was applying for scholarships to almost all my universities. She guided me thoroughly and never stopped supporting me. I feel that such supports really paid off in the end, as I was awarded with scholarships from 6 universities.

I have also won a most precious award from UBC which only had 1 - 2 % chance of anyone getting it.

Thoroughly confused about the college application process, a friend of mine suggested that I’d go to Mrs. Jyothsna.

In the month of May 2019, with there being just about six months until my first application deadline, it was only with Mrs. Jyothsna’s help that I could present to colleges my academic records and extracurricular activities in the best possible manner.

Be it ma’am texting me “hey kiddo, get working” to her desperately trying to manoeuvre her way through the Bangalore traffic while helping me with an application, Mrs. Jyothsna guided me through every individual application personally. On one occasion, I vividly remember her asking me over the phone “Tu kya vampire hain? Hamesha ye time par kyoon phone karta hain?” which translates to “Are you a vampire? Why do you always call me this late at night?”

These are a few among several incidents that bear testimony to Mrs. Jyothsna’s commitment and dedication to what she does. In fact, having considered multiple college counsellors, the only reason I believed Mrs. Jyothsna would be the right pick for me was this very individual attention she paid to each student of hers.

It’s hard, if not impossible, for me to condense my experience working with ma’am into a few worlds. But if there’s one thing I’ve told my juniors and I’ll tell you too, it’s Mrs. Jyothsna is truly a blessing.

As a teenager who suddenly has the responsibility of making major life decisions thrust upon them, it’s fair to say that most of us start off in the dark, blindly waving our hands in front of us. Luckily for me, I had the advantage of having Ms. Jyothsna by my side, guiding me through every step of way.

When I started my journey as a naïve junior, I didn’t quite expect how steep the climb would be. I hadn’t foreseen any of the challenges that dwell down the road of applying to colleges. If you had asked me where I see myself in just two short years, I couldn’t even tell you which continent I’d be in. And that’s where Ms. Jyothsna came in. Her kind, confident demeanor brandished her experience. Her ability to understand and appreciate my individuality allowed me to trust in her. And in what was one of the most important periods of my life that is exactly what I needed.

The moment I started working with Ms. Jyothsna, she could see exactly where my passions lay, and helped me strengthen the bridges that would connect me to them. She was of immense help in every aspect imaginable, giving me illustrated advice and opinions; From building my profile to reflect my interests, scheduling standardized testing, developing a prospective college-list to refining that into a shortlist, understanding the actual application process and initiating myself into it, double and triple-checking my essays, and, of course, understanding that I need my own time and space since I am still a teenager.

Over the years, Ms. Jyothsna has not only encouraged me to explore the depths of my passion and find an institution that supports it, but has also supported me as a professional and as a friend. I look forward to my first year at the University of Wisconsin – Madison now knowing that this is the college suited for me.
